Ethio-UK Trade and Investment Forum took place in London

WAFA Marketing and Promotion and Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ethiopian Embassy in London, and Developing Markets Associates, organized

a Trade and Investment Forum in London on 21st October 2015. The forum brought together close to 60 Ethiopian companies from different sectors selected in their business excellence and more than 150 British companies as well as high ranking government officials of both countries. The companies are drawn from the various sectors including but not limited to: agro-processing, construction, energy, mining, textile and garment, leather, and hospitality.

Bilateral trade and investment between the two countries have shown a tremendous improvement during the past decade. For instance, UK’s import from Ethiopia was only $29 million in the year 2005, while this has surged to $41 million in the year 2014, which is a more than 42 percent increase during the past ten years. Similarly, Ethiopia’s import from UK has grown from $64 million to $167.6 million during the same period, more than two fold . In addition, UK’s FDI in Ethiopia has currently reached $731.7 million, with a recent huge investment from Diageo that involved a $225 deal for the acquisition of the second largest brewery company in Ethiopia. UK’s total 326 investment projects in Ethiopia have created over 200 thousand jobs.

The business forum provided comprehensive Information on the latest trade, Investment and Tourism opportunities in Ethiopia that could be suitable to the UK firms. The B2B matching served as a mutual practical platform for businesses of both nations in a number of key sectors, as it is customary to envision from such forums, Wafa and its partners hope to see new ventures to emerge,

collaborations enhanced, existing market consolidated, new ones created. Now it is apparent to all concerned in global investment that Ethiopia is among the highly favorable destination of FDI with strong return on investment (ROI) and a much coveted potential for business extension not only internationally but also domestically as characterized by the salient market, econom

y, and demographic features. We kindly advice for any viewer to forward an inquiry, if you may have any.
