  • The Ethio-Turkish Business and Investment Forum was Held in Istanbul-Turkey on April 27 & 28, 2015

    The Ethio-Turkish Business and Investment Forum jointly organized by WAFA Marketing and Promotion, Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association (ECCSA) in collaboration with the FDRE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassy of Ethiopia in Turkey and the Turkish Ministry of Economy (DEIK) was held in Istanbul, Turkey, on 27 and 28 April 2015.

    The Forum, which brought together top executives and key decision makers representing both the private and publics sectors aims to be the largest gathering of Turkish and Ethiopian economic movers and stakeholders. The summit brought together prominent business leaders and associations, government officials and business people who will discuss a range of issues on fostering investment and trade through B2B, B2G, market linkages and plenary sessions among others.

    Delegates of over 60 private and public sectors comprised of Textile/garment, leather and leather products, manufacturing, chemical industries, construction, agriculture and agro-processing, electronics, pharmaceuticals, furniture selected in their business excellence and pertinent government ministries and institutions officials including the State Minister of FDRE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E Dewano Kedir took part in the forum. The delegation was led by H.E. Ahmed Abitew, Minister , FDRE Ministry of Industry.

    The primary objective of the Business and Investment forum was to attract Turkish investors in the above mentioned specific sectors. The forum was believed to strengthen the Turkish and Ethiopian private sector partnership. In addition to this, it provided a platform for public and private sector partnership, a policy dialogue with Turkish and Ethiopian decision makers. The business and investment forum  also showcases the new investment opportunities and potential market Ethiopia has to offer to the business community of Turkey.

    The envisaged forum was part of the activities to promote Ethiopian business, investment, trade and tourism potentials in different parts of the world. Similar forums have already taken place in the USA, four times (2009, 2011, 2013,2014) , 2014, Italy (2012), UK (2011), India (2011), Japan (2013), Russia (2013), South Korea (2013) , and Germany (2014) Canada (2014) .

    Turkish companies dominated a construction and technology event in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on Friday.

    The 7th International Construction, Construction Equipment and Technology Exhibition saw 110 companies from 10 nations begin a four-day display of cutting-edge technology.

    Friday’s event comes amid a drop in customs tariffs in Ethiopia designed to stimulate investment.

    WAFA Organizes the 2015 World Energy Council’s Executive Assembly and Its Parallel Events

    WAFA Marketing and Promotion Plc. in cooperation with Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy (MoWIE), has embarked upon preparations to organize the 2015 World Energy Council’s Executive Assembly and its parallel Events, after it won in a bid by the Ministry to organize the event. To get the honor of organizing this grand international event, WAFA had to pass through a neck- and -neck bid with potential shortlisted bidders.

    Following MoWIE’s winner announcement to organize the event, WAFA has started preparation to make the event an outstanding one. The event will take place from October 26-30, 2015 at United Nations Economic commission for Africa (UNECA’s) conference center.

    The previous World Energy Council’s Executive Assembly was held in October 2014, in Cartagena, Colombia with broad support from WEC members and the more than 700 attending representatives from governments and the private sector.

    Wafa Organizes a Successful Inauguration of Hawassa Industrial Park

    Wafa Marketing and Promotion has successfully carried out the inaugural ceremony of the Hawassa Industrial Park (HIP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, the Ethiopian Investment Commission and the Industrial Parks Development Corporation.

    The park constructed in the heart of Hawassa city has a total area of 1.3 million square kilometer and the first phase was developed at a cost of 270 million. The HIP which is dubbed eco industrial park is unique in the country in its zero liquid discharge with the facility for the purpose constructed on 32,700 square meters of area.

    The inauguration of the park was graced by the presence of Prime Minster Hailemariam Dessalegn and high ranking federal and regional government officials.

    AAICTDA in collaboration with WAFA Marketing & Promotion organized its first Exhibition and conference at Ethiopian National Conference Center starting from June 2 – 4, 2014.

    In this exhibition and conference, there were different participants from government office, private companies and students introducing new problem solving innovations.

    There was also a panel discussion, Quiz and Innovation contests in this program.

    44 new Peace Corps Volunteers at the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa were sworn in by Chargé d'affaires Peter Vrooman today.

    These Volunteers will be working as English language teachers in rural towns throughout Ethiopia. The group is the fifteenth group to swear in as Peace Corps Volunteers since 2007. They will join over 200 currently serving volunteers in Ethiopia and over 7,000 currently serving volunteers around the world. The G15 PCVs will be living and serving in Oromia, Tigray, Amhara, and SNNPR.

    Some 54 percent of the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is completed, Economic Affairs Cluster Coordinator with the Rank of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Communications and Information Technology disclosed.

    While touring the dam, Economic Affairs Cluster Coordinator with the Rank of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael, told Ethiopian News Agency that (GERD) that the construction of the dam has been executed carefully, responsibly and without interruption.

    The 656 km Addis Ababa - Djibouti railway line is said to start  trial service in the first week of October, according to the Ethiopian Railways Corporation. The trial service is expected to last three to six months, Dereje Tefera, Chief Officer of Communication Service with the Corporation told reporters during a visit by local and foreign journalists today to the Addis -Adama route of the project.

(a) The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government shall have the power to decree a state of emergency, should an external invasion, a breakdown of law and order which endangers the Constitutional order and which cannot be controlled by the regular law enforcement agencies and personnel, a natural disaster, or an epidemic occur.

    (b) Sate executives can decree a State-Wide state of emergency should a natural disaster or an epidemic occur. Particulars shall be determined in State Constitutions to be promulgated in conformity with this Constitution.

    Calcium supplements increase the risk of heart disease while a calcium-rich diet protects against it, a new study has found.

    Researchers from John Hopkins analysed the medical records of 2700 people over 10 years.

    At the outset of the study, the participants completed in-depth questionnaires about their diet (specifically looking for calcium-rich foods like cereals, dairy products and leafy greens) as well as what supplements and drugs they took daily.

    Ethiopian Sugar Corporation  said it would produce 700 million quintals of sugar to meet local demand and curtail foreign currency expenditure.

    Two new sugar factories will go operational this Ethiopian budget year, in addition to the existing 5 sugar factories.

    The country has been importing annually an average of 2 million quintals of sugar with 2.6 billion Birr worth foreign currency to meet the demand, it was indicated.  To cut this expense and meet the demand of sugar, new factories have been built in Oromia, Amhara, Tigray, Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples, and Afar regional states.

    Ethiopia is known to have a number of cultural and religious festivals that attract large number of tourists from around the world. Meskel, the founding of the True Cross is one.  Every year, a huge number of tourists from around the world converged on Meskel Square to take part on the celebration of Demera, an outdoor festival celebrated a day before Meskel.

    Meskel has two occasions, the first is Demera, the burning of a large bonfire built from branches and decorated with daisies like flower (adey abeba). Here in Addis Ababa, the festival observed at the Meskel Square. The day after the Demera is Meskel.

    The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has announced that a trade mission will be visiting Kenya and Ethiopia this week. The mission is part of the Chamber of Commerce's strategy to increase trade with the promising markets of the world, especially African markets.

    The President of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce said "As part of our strategy to provide Dubai businesses the best opportunities for growth, this trade mission will put delegates in contact with some of the most influential figures across the private and public sectors in the two countries thus enabling them to gather a deeper understanding of the investment climate and business opportunities at hand in the East Africa region." 

    The mission which will be led by Majid Al Ghurair, chairman of the Dubai Chamber and will include leading figures from the Al Fardan Group of Companies; Rivoli Group LLC; Nasser Bin Abdullatif Alserkal Establishment; Dubai Investments Industries;and the SS Lootah Group and Lootah Technologies and General Trading.

    The technical teams of Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia signed the final the contracts for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) technical studies on Tuesday in Khartoum.

    The three states have agreed that the French consultancy firms BRL and Artelia will carry out the studies on the impact that the GERD will have on the flow of the Nile, while the British law firm Corbett will overlook the legal affairs of the process.

    The water and irrigation ministers of the three countries also attended the signing ceremony. The groups signed five copies of contacts, 200 pages each, the state-owned MENA news agency said.

    The business forum showcase a new investment opportunities and potential Ethiopia has to offer to the international business communities. It also creates a platform for Ethiopian private sectors to establish business partnership and relationship with businesses (B to B) in Russia.

    WAFA Marketing and promotion has organized similar forums successfully in the United States(2009 and 2011), United Kingdom, Italy and India.

    The Ethio-Djibouti railway, which was inaugurated yesterday, will start rendering service soon by hiring more than 2,000 Ethiopians, said the Ethiopian Railways Corporation.

    Ethiopia’s second mega project next to the Grand Renaissance Dam, the Ethio-Djibouti railway was built Chinese and Ethiopian professionals at a cost of 3.4 billion US dollars. It is the longest railway in Africa.

    Ethio-South Korea Trade and Investment Forum

    South-Korean Embassy in Ethiopia , FDRE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Asia & Oceania Affairs Directorate, Business Diplomacy Directorate General and others team with WAFA Marketing and Promotion plc , organized the “Ethio-South Korea Trade and Investment Forum” on June 19,2013.

    During the forum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is giving a special focus to Economic Diplomacy, promoted Ethiopia’s great resource potential and investment opportunities to its South Korean peer.

    Ethiopian Investors from various trade and agriculture sectors as well as more than 15 governmental and private university representatives participated during the forum.

    Apart from the Ethio-South Korea forum, Ethiopia and South Korea celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between the two nations. Furthermore Ethiopian Airlines started direct flight from Addis Ababa to Seoul on June 18th, 2013.

    EFDR Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Tewodros Adhanom led the forum and also Governmental & non-governmental organizations and Investors attended the event.
